NEW INTERVIEW / FILM BREAKDOWN - We discuss his Oscar-qualified, Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winning short film THE MAN WHO COULD NOT REMAIN SILENT.Ladies and gentlemen, Nebosha Slijepčević’s Oscar-qualified, Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winning short film THE MAN WHO COULD NOT REMAIN SILENT is based on a true story that happened in 1993 of a passenger train traveling from Belgrade to Bar when it is stopped by paramilitary forces in an ethnic cleansing operation. There we meet the man who quite literally could remain silent and stands for his rights as well as others on board, leaving witness to this horrific form of treatment in shock. Only one man out of 500 passengers dares to stand up to them. This is the true story of a man who could not remain silent. This film brings us an unassuming hero, Tomo Buzov who stood up for his fellow passengers and paid the ultimate price. This film is a cinematic beauty and deserves being Oscar-qualified. This film is what winning a possible Oscar is all about. A compelling story, acting that grips the heart and stirs your emotions. The cinematography at this level is very rare in cinema and when you get the chance to see THE MAN WHO COULD NOT REMAIN SILENT you will be like me and not remain silent about how incredible this short film truly is. I believe we call it a masterpiece. https://lnkd.in/gnvs4Znq #cannesfilmfestival #cannes #shortfilms #cinema #palmedorwinner #awardwinner #cinematography #filmmaker #filmmaking #filmproduction #filmdirector #croatia #serbia #truestory

This is an inspiring story that shows what can be accomplished with teamwork, determination, and sheer force of will in the face of overwhelming odds. This is a true story about real people. Some of the challenges we face today are different, but require the same capacities demonstrated by "The Boys in the Boat."-- How can we, as educators, help learners to develop the mental fortitude and internal strength they need? -- How do we identify their strengths? Leverage perceived weaknesses? -- How do we support them to achieve more despite the obstacles they'll face? https://lnkd.in/gAb5WGnR

https://lnkd.in/gSupA-jPThis short documentary film features author Akin Adesokan with an intermedial and intertextual approach to storytelling, alluding to the Afro-beat legend Fela Kuti.Directorial Statement: It challenges the perception of cinema when cinema includes multiple mediums to communicate. For instance, the verb may go beyond “seeing” in cinema and add other verbs like “reading,” “listening,” and/or “tactile.” I believe that if I need to feel an author character, I should be his/her/their reader; the same way we feel a musician character when we listen to the music, or we feel a painter/sculptor when we see the use of brushstrokes, colors, mud, ceramics, and whatnot! The beauty of cinema is that it can blend all mediums, even though that might not be comfortable to the eyes due to pre-programmed habits of perception. However, the purpose of cinema, to me, is to disrupt preconceived notions and deconstruct stereotypes of comprehensibility. To me, viewing means spectators dying to be reborn.—Shams [March 27, 2024]#intermediality #visualarts #shortdoc #akinadesokan

"What I Learned About Storytelling From The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)?" (Part One) If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, which would you pick? I’ll choose The Lord of the Rings trilogy (even with some difficulties… there are too many great movies!) I lose count of how many times I have rewatched the trilogy. Why do I love it so much? Is it the story, the characters, the music, or the cinematography? The answer is all of the above. It not only provides the adventure I yearn for, but also teaches me what makes a good story. The two things I learned about storytelling from "The Lord of the Rings" are character development/growth and foreshadowing. The brilliance of LOTR characters is that they are all unique. Not only the fellowship members, but also others along the journey, like Gollum, Faramir, Éowyn, Saruman, etc. They vary in personalities and backgrounds; each carries a different burden. I can talk about each in length, but the two I want to focus on are Pippin and Aragon.Pippin is a carefree hobbit, whose mind is mostly about food and fun. Gandalf calls him “Fool of a Took” as he’s like a naughty child, always causing trouble (Pippin is literally a child. According to LOTR appendices, he’s around 27-28 years old, the youngest of all. Not to mention characters like Gandalf and Legolas’ ages are beyond our comprehension). Through the first to the second movie, Pippin encounters life-threatening situations, but Merry is always there with him, so Pippin is not affected that much. Things take a turn when in the third movie, Gandalf brings him to Gondor. This is the first time the two separate. Pippin shows courage on his own and saves Faramir’s life. Seeing Pippin throughout the trilogy is like seeing a child grow into a courageous and independent adult, it’s extremely emotional.Another character is Aragon, the hero of many. Aragon first appears as a ranger dressed in rags, but his coolness cannot be concealed. We later learned that he’s actually the rightful heir of Gondor. Aragon lacks confidence in himself and humans in general. As Isildur’s heir, he believes he has the same weakness. Despite showing intelligence and physical strength, Aragon chooses exile. He transforms slowly throughout the trilogy. From Arwen’s encouragement, Boromir’s tearful remark: "You were quick enough to trust the Elves. Have you so little faith in your own people?, to the climatic scene where Elrond hands Andúril to Aragon and says, "Put aside the ranger. Become who you were born to be." (one of my favorite scenes!) It shows that Aragon finally accepts who he is and restores faith. Another emotional development that shows the hero’s journey not only comes from the outside, but also within oneself.https://lnkd.in/eEsH884xP.S.
